The elephant, the symbol of huge strength and stature, wisdom and courage, often used by people who have distinguished themselves in the East. This is a fabulous carnelian intaglio elephant head in a crown to this seal in this antique 9ct yellow gold cased fob, pendant or charm dating from the Georgian period. The seal almost certainly belonged to Sir William Betham (1779-1853) please see ‘University of Toronto, British Armorial Bindings’.
The gold has been XRF tested. The carnelian seal is in great order with wonderful crisp detailing please see the pictures, a wonderful addition to any seal collection.
Size including bale 2.0 x 1.3 x 1.7 cm or 0.8 x 0.5 x 0.7 inches.
Weight 4.0 grams or 2.58 penny weight.
